Roti originates from India and is sometimes referred to as chapatti. Many countries, including those in the Caribbean, commonly use roti in their food. Roti is a great building block for all sorts of foods and meals. The meaning of the word roti is bread. In the Caribbean, roti is often served with soups and curries, or as a wrap. Other methods of eating roti include tearing off bites and dunking in soup, or if you are looking for a dessert roti, you can cook it with sugar and butter. The Caribbean style of roti is made with wheat flour, baking powder, salt and water. Some recipes also include ghee or butter.
Here at Caribbean Hut, we make fresh roti wraps daily. One of our favorite ways to serve roti is in our vegetable roti wrap. The wrap can include eggplant, shallots, potatoes, red and yellow peppers, chilies, garlic cloves, corn, carrots and/or leeks.
